Muti, please show me which items are new since I last visited.

I usually look at the ‘hot’ section of muti.co.za about twice a day. It bugs me that I have to scan all the content twice. They should have a way to flag or colour the items that are new, for me personally. My feed reader is better than I am at remembering what I’ve seen before… use the same logic.

How?

Well, when I visit.. send my browser a cookie with a list of news item ID’s currently on the front page. When I visit again, get the cookie, see what’s new and mark the new stuff when you generate my page. I suggest you change the colour of the vote-block on the left to show me if an item is old or new.

You could just do this for logged in users (only).. but I often don’t want to log in, that’s why I like the cookie idea.

The weekend list.. hmm…

  • It’s a rainy weekend in Cape Town. I just had a nice cup of vanilla tea.
  • It was mothers day today. Yes, I phoned my mom.
  • I watched Dan in real life today. Awesome movie. Feelgood comedy. Really enjoyed it. Makes you want a big family and lots of children.
  • We had another Hotspot Agent sign up today.
  • Spent Saturday with Mia. We visited the biscuit mill market with Jonathan and (beer brewing) Lynnae.
  • Ended up in Stellenbosch Wijnhuis for the rugby. Yeah, it’s true.. from time to time I don’t mind drinking wine and chilling on a nice couch while everybody around me watches the rugby.
  • We moved on to Cubana where I was the only guy in the place wearing shorts and running shoes. WSE had a somewhat confrontational word with the owner about their dress code. *grin*

“She is like a cat in the dark.
And then she is the darkness.”
Sevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac

For some reason I’ve had this song stuck in my head since yesterday.

It’s about a girl named Rhiannon who is unconstrained and lives life on her own terms. You can never capture her, she is unattainable, she needs to be free. Independent, like a cat.

Rhiannon was a Welsh goddess. She left her magical realm for a mortal king.

Bullet point update for the week..

  • I’ve slowly been working through a mountain of email after last weeks holiday. If you are waiting for a reply, well.. I’ll get to it.
  • I was contacted about joining the Extreme Networks Customer Advisory Council. It’s a forum for “innovative and creative user of Extreme Networks solutions”. Maybe it’s because I keep bugging them about the features I want.. often strange requests only people crazy enough to build wireless networks in Africa would think about.
  • I just returned from a Frogfoot staff cocktail party at Jaqui Daya. In celebration of the store’s 1st birthday we were invited for a few snacks and drinks.. it’s just around the corner from our office so we’re very good customers.
  • So, with a bit of social lubricant (vino) I finally updated and published a page that’s been in draft form for a while. I guess it’s still a draft but now it’s out there in the wild. It’s a page about Frogfoot’s company values.
  • I also added a hotspot overview page, to give everybody the bigger picture of how the Frogfoot Hotspot business model works.
  • Attended my first “powerplate” class on Wednesday. I guess it’s my fad of the month.
  • Note to self: don’t do any back exercises the day before looking after a 2yr old.

Keep out of trouble kids, but have a fun weekend.

I trawled through all the Frogfoot Hotspot sales questions from March, April and May to update the Hotspot FAQ tonight.

We added a page about our Hotspot Agent program today. Check it out.. money for jam :-)

Just returned from a brief meeting at Mel’s Village Kitchen.. which will be the venue for the next GeekDinner.

The eighth in the new series of original GeekDinners, aka Happy Habanero (in sync with Hardy Haron it seems), will be held on Wednesday the 28th of May 2008, at Mel’s Village Kitchen. Be there at 18:30 for 19:00. Sign up here. See you there.

Earlier that same day (16:00) you’ll find me at the Cape Town WordPress Meetup #3, at the Bandwidth Barn.

Two geeky gatherings in a row.

If two people love each other, but they just can’t seem to get it together, when do you get to that point of enough is enough?
Never.
