  • “The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.” — Baz Luhrmann – Everybody’s Free To Wear Sunscreen

  • Wednesday, creative writing, office, lunchtime walk, long meeting.
  • Listen to: Jim Collins — A Rare Interview with a Reclusive Polymath – I like his ideas about 1000 creative hours per year, and flywheels.
  • Thursday, up early, breakfast at Fred&Max in Somerset West, Dirk visit – usual nerdy chats, work, a tank beer at Quay Four, watched Alita Battle Angel – pretty good.

Quick Update

Solo, flaneuring, best time to be alive…

Sunset
  • Week of 11-17 Feb.
  • Monday, breakfast with Mia, school run, court visit, Fred&Max breakfast, Stellenbosch visit, office – until loadshedding at 16:00 – argh, even 3G internet dies, nap, sunset promenade walk.
  • Ear infection on the left side. Suspecting podcasts and swimming. Not the best combo.
  • I think it’s safe to say you are a shitty parent when you take your daughter’s phone charging table – which prevents her from communicating with her father.
  • Tuesday, office, doctor visit, got some ear drops at Dischem, dev catch up, lunchtime walk, troubleshooting, Strolla, sunset walk.
  • RELAX, NOTHING’S UNDER CONTROL! (-:
  • Wednesday, voted for The Cape Party at the Camps Bay Club – Ward 54 election, Octotel team building day, went for a Table Mountain hike in a group of ten, burgers and beers at Hudsons in Kloof str, afternoon of problem solving chats at the Platteklip Wash House in Oranjezicht, braai.
  • Thursday, woke up at the Platteklip Wash House, Camps Bay beach visit, breakfast at Caprice, office, meeting, dev meeting, meeting, phone chat with Jacques, mini nap, sunset podcast promenade walk.
  • Friday, work, gym, WW rotisserie chicken and avo and some chardonnay – gourmet bachelor food, took a longer than usual flaneuring podcast walk to via Clifton to Camps Bay – Clifton 4 was cloudy and looked like a scene from a Monkey Island game, a drink in Camps Bay, watched Solo again with a g&t – good movie, time well spent.
  • I took a walk today, with wireless headphones in my ears listening to mostly A-ha, and I did not even think to take my wallet, paid for a drink, then took an Uber back home while having a 2 hour facetime audio chat with Jacques – and the call transitioned happily from GSM to home wifi, like wow! – we are living in the future kids – while I’m writing this, I can tap my left ear twice to skip to the next song. Holy shit, this is the best time to be alive, so, maybe stay alive a bit longer kids? There are some Star Trek things coming, trust me.
  • Urhm, it was Valentines day this week, and that’s rad, but I really can’t say I’m that positive on meeting humans. To add context I asked somebody on a walk this week, with lukewarm feedback… which in Sivers speak, is not ideal.
  • Alexa, exploit a worker!
  • Saturday, got up late, watched the rest of Solo, nap, tinkered a bit at La Vie, sunset walk, watched Papillon – good movie.
  • “I know.” — Han Solo.

  • Sunday, general tinkering and creative writing, photo and notes processing, gym, sunset podcast promenade walk.

Have a fun week, crazy kids.

  • Sunday, creative writing, convinced Mia to go find some lunch, Posticino, Mia wanted to go watch Bohemian Rhapsody – but there was loadshedding as we arrived at the movies, found a book for Mia at EBs, a beer at Den Anker – they have grenadine which Mia loves, tinkered a bit at home, sunset promenade walk, curry at 91.

Quick Update

This post is late…

Road Trip
  • Week of 28 January to 3 February.
  • Monday, woke up in Somerset West, hotel breakfast, school run, gym, office, Skype meeting, podcast walk, worked a bit at La Vie, sunset podcast promenade walk.
  • How To Be Successful
  • “Compound yourself. Compounding is magic. Look for it everywhere. Exponential curves are the key to wealth generation. A medium-sized business that grows 50% in value every year becomes huge in a very short amount of time. Few businesses in the world have true network effects and extreme scalability. But with technology, more and more will. It’s worth a lot of effort to find them and create them.”

  • Tuesday, worked a bit at Bootleggers, walked to Strolla, I had two breakfast specials at Knead, office, dev meeting, more meetings, a drink and some creative writing at La Vie.
  • “We spend our lives learning how to live.”

  • Wednesday, up early, perfect morning weather, walked to gym, swim, sauna, office, Teraco meeting, some creative writing, lunchtime walk, Strolla, game steaks for dinner at Hussar.
  • You should probably be in the business of automation.
  • Thursday, Bootleggers, Knead breakfast special, office, worked at La Vie, worked a bit at a new bar around the corner, some creative writing.
  • Friday, gym, swim, sauna, office, watched Mia’s swimming gala – which was a bit disappointing, chateaubriand early supper at Hussar with Mia, Gordons Bay Bikini Beach Books, dropped Mia off at her mom’s house, fetched camping gear – aB crate and five finger shoes, in bed early.
  • About the gala: Mia showed up without goggles, lost her cap, came 5th in the medley race – a girl that’s a year younger beat her, then she was late for two of her races and they had to call her over the PA system – reminded me a bit of The Baumer’s tennis meltdown, I had to take a walk. At least she won the backstroke race.
  • It’s not weak, to not know.
  • Trying not to forget – mindful eating, and drinking.
  • Saturday, meeting in Gardens, lunch with Paul, Leaving Las Vegas express stop at Ultra, road trip to Helderstroom with Paul, set up our tents around sunset.
  • Sunday, Origin, time well spent.
  • Tune of the week: I’ve Been Losing You – from the Norwegian band, A-ha, released in 1986 – which seems to be a song about a guy singing to a girlfriend he just shot.

Have a fun week, crazy kids.
