Quick Update

Everything has already happened…

Sunset Braai
  • Week of 11-17 March.
  • Monday, breakfast with Mia – the usual fruit and greek yoghurt, school run, work, school meeting, gym, swim, sauna, work, late lunch in Stellenbosch, two meetings, supper and tinkering at Mojo Market.
  • Steampunk is dumb.
  • Tuesday, up early, Bootleggers special, worked a bit at Tea in the Park, office, dev catch up, data fixing, podcast walk, dinner at NV80 with Georg, catch up with Wouter.
  • Wednesday, gym, swim, sauna, office, dev meeting, tea at The Yard at the Waterfront, Strolla, sunset podcast walk.
  • Everything has already happened… we have very little free will, we just bump into things on some path / general vector.
  • At least we have functional saunas this autumn / winter.

  • Listen to the Marc Andreessen interview on The Moment with Brian Koppelman.
  • Thursday, walked to the office, Mojo lunch, loadshedding in Sea Point, presentation tweaking with a Hoegaarden at Harveys, Amber Weiss at La Vie, nap, gave a talk about Open Networking at the first WCNOG meeting at The Hyde Hotel in Sea Point – got a tshirt.
  • “I am Jack’s lingering sense of hope.”

  • “I’m fading out, in stereo.”

  • Friday, office, walk, braai at home, time well spent.
  • Confidence, to just do things. Been pondering this lately.
  • Saturday, tea, backups, general tinkering, epic nap, gym, sunset podcast walk, rotisserie chicken with avo and good chardonnay, notes processing, in bed early, time well spent.

  • Find a scene. What nerds do on evenings and weekends.
  • Sunday, rainy day, random tinkering, rainy podcast promenade walk, pancakes, watched the Youtube live stream of The Capitalist Party launch event, St Patrick’s day Guinness at Van Hunks with Georg, Ryan and Paul, time well spent.

Just like that, summer was over…

Pipe Track
  • Week of 4-10 March.
  • Monday, up early, rainy day, watched the last few minutes of Lost in Translation, gym, sauna, office, Strolla, La Vie, sunset podcast walk.
  • Been pondering some changes.
  • Tuesday, Bootleggers, Knead breakfast special, office, lunchtime walk, late afternoon Pipe Track hike with Al.
  • Nobody is dying of cancer. Something Jonathan used to say.
  • Wednesday, gym, sauna, office, dev meeting, Strolla, sunset walk, 91, 143 zen.
  • Podcast queue zero, inbox zero!
  • Funny how having something big to finish works well for procrastination and flushing the queue of all the other small things.
  • Thursday, Bootleggers, Knead breakfast special, office, creative writing, biltong and Counting Crows.
  • “Voluntary death and rebirth redeems.” — JP

  • Friday, gym, sauna, office, DC move meeting, general tinkering at La Vie with more Counting Crows, sunset walk, a whisky with Wouter.
  • Seems impossible for me to add FB friends faster than people are quitting FB or unfriending me, not sure which is a bigger drain on the system.
  • Adventure.
  • Saturday, slept late, fetched Mia from Rushmore, fetched Jacques, Plaasfees at Diemersdal wine farm, nap, extended braai, watched a bit of Aquaman, babies don’t sleep this well.

  • Sunday, breakfast at Jacques’, we watched Captain Marvel at the 3D IMAX – entertaining, frogurt, Mia and I tried to find Panama Jacks – turns out they moved it, so we walked around the cruise terminal at the Waterfront, oyster special at Sea Breeze on Bree – Mia seems to like oysters now – brain food / vitamin sea, Moro gelato, shopping for breakfast goodies, backups, notes and photo processing, so many devices to charge – 8, time well spent.
  • Tunes of the week: Counting Crows obviously, this one is interesting: Possibility Days.

Quick Update

To a universe we choose…

Winchester Mansions
  • Week of 25 February to 3 March.
  • Monday, breakfast with Mia, school run, work, gym, mediation session, brunch with Dirk at Fred&Max, haircut at Yogi’s – bumped into Anton at the barber shop, a beer at Van Hunks – nice to catch up with Anton, time well spent.
  • Tuesday, long day – traversed the Boland (love) triangle, a walk around Stellenbosch with Alan, breakfast at The Millhouse Cafe – catch up with Parri, work, fetched Mia from school, took Mia for a quick tour of the herb farm at Allee Bleue, took Mia to a school open day, salads for supper, back to the open day, smoothies, dropped Mia off at her mom’s house, had a whisky with Wouter.

  • Wednesday, Knead before-8am breakfast special, office, dev catch up, ramen for lunch, Octotel had a metro fibre break and some downtime fun and games, a beer on Michael’s roof.
  • Note to self: use DuckDuckGo more.
  • Thursday, work, walked to the office, worked a bit at La Vie, nap, general tinkering.

  • Friday, gym, swim, sauna, office, dev catch up, Mojo Market, a Hoegaarden at The Winchester, dinner at Carne on Kloof with Adrian Georg and Al, tiramisu, Clifton beach walk with Georg, time well spent.
  • Saturday, podcast walk to the Granger bay market, Waterfront, Belgian beers and mussels at Den Anker while listening to some podcasts, watched Bohemian Rhapsody again at the VIP cinemas with a Jamey, epic nap, emmental snack and Bouchard Finlayson chard, a drink at Bao Down Restaurant in Oranjezicht, Peroxide 80s party at Wonderland with Kirsty and Rene, 12h sleep, time well spent.
  • I discovered Conversations with Tyler. How did I not know about this earlier?
  • I updated my Podcasts list.
  • I’m still hopeful for my 2014 matchmaking project in the desert.
  • Sunday, lazy day, watched Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets again with some Glen Carlou chard – because Luc Besson is cool, epic nap, sunset podcast walk, explored a Chinese restaurant down the road, watched Lost in Translation again – great movie, time well spent.
