Quick Update

Bagels, halloumi and PWAs…

Promenade
  • Week of 12-18 August.
  • Monday, work, gym, swim, sauna, made an omelette with halloumi cheese, sunset podcast promenade walk.
  • I bumped into a fellow podcast enthusiast recently, and I shared these links again: Favourite Episodes, Shows, Entrepreneurs.
  • Tuesday, office, meetings.
  • I can’t say I’m very optimistic about South Africa at the moment. About 15% of the country’s budget is going towards interest payments and debt is 60% of GDP. Add a junk status downgrade followed by a currency devaluation and things are going to get uncomfortable.
  • “What you can become, you must become.”

  • Wednesday, work, Green Point Park walk and a long chat with Dirk, work, gym, extended podcast vlaneuring.
  • I’m starting to think a lot of people like alcohol more because of the anti-anxiety effects than euphoria.
  • Thursday, office, dev catch up – Martin broke his arm, stayed at the office late, sunset promenade walk, catch up with Wouter.
  • “They say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time.” — Banksy

  • Error Management Theory
  • “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” — Frank Herbert, Dune, sci-fi meditation.

  • Friday, work, made scrabled eggs and halloumi, fetched Mia, catch up with Dirk, 1890 conveyor belt sushi supper, Moro gelato, catch up with Wouter – with a nice malbec.
  • I’ve been reading about PWAs. Pretty cool tech. The browser is the OS.
  • Saturday, perfect weather, tea, grapefruit, device upgrades and backups, we walked to the Granger Bay Market for a salmon bagel and Moro gelato, Sotano with Georg, nap, braai at Jacques’, time well spent.
  • Bagels are traditionally shaped by hand into the form of a ring from yeasted wheat dough, roughly hand-sized, that is first boiled for a short time in water and then baked. They were widely consumed by Ashkenazi Jews in 17th century Poland.
  • Elze is about a month old now.
  • Sunday, I made a big (Greek) brunch with some halloumi cheese, nap, sunset promenade walk with Mia, Mia had a very spicy curry at 91 – and managed to finish about 1/4 of it, I helped Mia with a public speaking assignment, time well spent.

Have a fun week, crazy kids.

  • Tuesday, office, dev catch up, met some illustrators.

  • Carel has clocked 133 days in his podcasting app. Impressive. I’m on 56 days.
  • The people who keep us company
  • Sunday, I watched The The Hummingbird Project – not bad, extended nap, rainy sunset podcast promenade walk, I watched The Hudsucker Proxy again.
  • Photos are a bit boring this week :-/
