A few notes about things you probably want to configure and install on a fresh macOS machine. I’m using macOS 10.15 at this point in time.
Not getting too nerdy, just a collection of day to day generally useful things.

Install
- Karabiner Elements, if you type on a Dvorak keyboard layout
- Firefox – see add-on suggestions in link below
- Telegram, Signal, Skype etc
- Simplenote from App Store
- iStatMenus
- iTerm2
- Homebrew : brew install aspell autojump calc curl dict elinks fping git iperf3 jed mosh mtr python speedtest-cli telnet wget whois zsh
- Oh-my-zsh
- Sublime Text
- Dropbox
- VLC
- Vienna RSS
- Flume
- iAnalyzeWifi from App Store and iStumbler
- Afrikaans Dictionary and Spellcheck
- Google Earth Pro
- Magnet from App Store for window placement
- Install and migrate some fonts
System Preferences items
- Enable Night Shift
- Move Dock to the right of the screen
- Turn on DND
- Enable Firewall
- Run this in terminal: “defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg”
- Remove screenshot delay : Command + Shift + 5 > Show Floating Thumbnail (off)

I would add 1Password, works really nice on iOs and OSX
