  • The last few days have been very busy – time for holiday chill time.
  • Origin of the heart symbol: “…might have to do with a North African plant. During the seventh century B.C., the city-state of Cyrene * had a lucrative trade in a rare, now-extinct plant: silphium. Although it was mostly used for seasoning, silphium was reputed to have an off-label use as a form of birth control. The silphium was so important to Cyrene’s economy that coins were minted that depicted the plant’s seedpod, which looks like the heart shape we know today. The theory goes that the heart shape first became associated with sex, and eventually, with love.”
  • Saturday, slept late, Freedom Day, I did as little as possible, notes and photo processing, nap, Son-of-a-Butcher visit, braai with Adrian, Wouter and Rene – and a Chamonix Chardonnay.
  • Pro tip: braai steak until exactly 48degC.
  • Quick 2020 reflection / highlights:
    • The lockdown and winter combo really sucked
    • I’m a bit sad I did not use the time to learn more things
    • Grew a Facebook page to 50k likes, nice learning experience
    • Cape Independence gained a lot of momentum
    • Mia adjusted well to high school
    • I adjusted well to being a full time dad, in the winelands
    • I explored a respectable number of wine farms in the area
    • Atomic doubled in size
    • I met someone cool
    • Major lesson of 2020: adapt quicker
  • Sunday, breakfast at Stepbrothers with Wouter, laundry day, gourmet hot dogs on the patio, nap, took a long walk to the Waterfront with Rene, got a new iPhone case (mil spec 810G) and a champagne stopper, we had a beer at Den Anker.
  • Airpods Pro was a bad idea. I moved back to using Airpods2 – better design – better ux – less complexity.
  • Tune of the week: Leviathan – James

Have a fun week, crazy kids.
