Monday, PV club house breakfast, fetched Mia, road trip to Montagu, hot springs visit, walk, evening hot springs visit.
Tuesday, slept until almost 10am, hotel breakfast, chilled afternoon, tour of the Montagu farm stalls, The Barn on R62, pizza, evening hot springs visit.
Wednesday, slept late, R62 road trip with Mia, we stopped for lunch at Christina’s bistro at Van Loveren, scenic drive to Somerset West, dropped Mia off, a quick Dirk visit and a tour of his new irrigation system, sushi at the PV clubhouse and a sunset walk.
Thursday, the big dentist day, had to be driven home, smoothies and meds, sunset podcast golf course walk and a phone chat with Jacques.
Pro tip: Just skip the root canal and go for the titanium screw option. Not bad at all. Only snag – I’m now on my 4th antibiotics course and I have a whole bag of meds including pro-biotics and steroids – which I think are to help the bone settle around the screw.
Friday, up early, network configs, walked to The Yard and had lunch, drove back to Cape Town, braai with Wouter.
Two types of jobs: 1) doing things others don’t want to do, 2) doing things others can’t do. If you are not in engineering, you are in support.
Saturday, breakfast at Naked with Wouter, photo processing, backups, walked to the Waterfront, late lunch at Den Anker – steak tartare – easy to chew, oh bother the L’Occitaine shop closed, a glass of red wine with Wouter.

Sunday, Clifton beach walk, Debian 10.9 upgrades, nap, configured a VM in London and played with mysql replication, pasta and red wine with Wouter and Justin.
Not the best week, less wine photos this week – more dentist fun – about to get a titanium upgrade. On my second course of antibiotics now. Turns out you get two broad categories. You can’t drink any alcohol when taking the antibiotics for anaerobic bacteria. Toothache can really fuck with your quality of life – but modern painkillers are pretty impressive.
Wednesday, Sea Point, dentist 3D scan, other dentist imprint, drove to Pearl Valley, sushi.

Thursday, up early, walked the dog, home officing, sushi at Oku in Franschhoek, Antonij Ruper Wyne wine tasting – because loadshedding and with wine tasting I mean having tea, Topiary wines.
My stolen Macbook finally showed up on FindMy app and received its lock message. A bit more peace of mind.
Friday, pedicures, lunch at Big Dog Cafe, afternoon walk around the golf course, we made salad.
Saturday, morning dog walk, lunch at Le Lude – good food – but try sit outside because of the acoustics, mini high tea bubbly tasting, nap, walk, watched Spirited Away again.
New fav bubbly: Le Lude Brut – tastes a bit salty – very good.
Sunday, photo processing, shut down a few things which were probably taking up more time than is healthy, a little Sunday adventure to the doctor in Paarl because of an ear infection – so third round of antibiotics – faack – and some Quadriderm to the rescue again, watched Howl’s Moving Castle again, dog walk, salad, watched The Trial of the Chicago 7.
Monday, home officing, backups, photo processing, played graphic designer, sunset podcast walk to Clifton, supper with Wouter.
Tuesday, up early to upgrade a router, made a Shopify online shop live, walked to Clifton, Apple device upgrade day, VM migration.
Wednesday, online shop tweaking, nap, afternoon walk, weekly meeting, dinner with Wouter and Teddy – and some Kevin Arnold shiraz.
I know some Shopify basics now. Online shops are pretty easy to set up.
Thursday, morning promenade walk, dentist, Just Skin, oysters at Mojo Market, weekly meeting.
Friday, coffee at Stepbrothers with Wouter, Point Mall, fetched Mia from school, biltong shopping in Franschhoek, road trip to Pringle Bay – Mia tells me she took the Bible out at the school library and started reading it, stopped in Kleinmond, supper at Bistro 365, slept like a baby.
Saturday, we took a walk to Pringle village for lunch, nap, braai with some Five Soldiers Chardonnay, loadshedding at 20:00 – so early night.
Sunday, Pringe beach walk, coastal drive back with Mia, Somerset Mall, dropped Mia off, late lunch at La Paris Deli, last minute 7 Koppies visit.
Monday, woke up in Elgin, morning walk – realised I need to make a few changes, scrabled eggs, packing, drove to Paarl, lunch at Turbodene (Big Dog Cafe) in Franschhoek, Rushmore visit, wine tasting at Rustenberg and a walk around their gardens, wine tasting at Lanzerac, drove to Cape Town, had some Rustenberg shiraz with Wouter and Rene, in bed early.
Tuesday, car service day, weekly meeting, fetched car – with new software – there was one annoying bug, some laptop hunting in Greenmarket Square again, Wouter and I took some merch photos just past Bakoven, dinner at Maria’s in Dunkley Square with Wouter and Rene.
Wednesday, photo processing, blogging, backups, nap, afternoon walk to the Waterfront – and a long phone chat with Jacques, beer at Den Anker.
Thursday, breakfast at gym, VM migrations with wine and chocolate.
Friday, visit to the old apartment building, lunch at Rockpool – good old chicken skewers and a bloody mary, haircut at Artem mall, biltong shopping, nap, sunset podcast promenade walk and a long chat with Jacques, watched My Best Friend’s Wedding again.
Life has been a bit busy. It was time to do nothing for a weekend.
Saturday, slept late, Son of a Butcher T-bone braai with Wouter and some Glen Carlou Gravel Quarry 2017 red, time well spent.
Sunday, podcast walk to the Waterfront, a beer at Den Anker and some mussels, time well spent.

Wednesday, laundry, backups, photo processing, blogging at Mykonos Taverna, somebody stole my laptop bag out of the back of my car – good thing I made full backups, weekly meeting.
Make double sure your car is locked when parking around Sea Point. Remote jamming is a thing. My laptop was stolen from the back of my car. Sea Point CID looked at CCTV footage and confirmed it was a case of remote jamming.
Thursday, up early to upgrade a server, a quick visit to Greenmarket Square with CID people and police – to try track down my laptop, Sea Point police station, braai at home with Al and Adrian and the dutch models.
Friday, drove to Paarl, biltong shopping in Franschhoek, drove to Grabouw, lunch at The Melting Pot at Oak Valley – used to be The Pool Room – good food – epic Groenland chardonnay, Jakals River Farm.
Saturday, Perigine Farm Stall breakfast, mostly tech-free day, reading Dune – finally, afternoon walk, too windy for the hot tub, watched Indiana Jones – Raiders of the Lost Ark, fell asleep on the couch.
Sunday, Houw Hoek Hotel visit, epic afternoon nap, walked the dogs around the apple and pear orchards, watched Rocketman again, time well spent.
